I am currently partaking in an exhibition at The Cape Gallery to commemorate the World Summit for Sustainable Development. The exhibition of Bronzes, Oil & Acrylic Paintings, pastel Drawings and Watercolours by various artists was opened by Therese Brinkcate, manager of The Green Trust, on Sunday 28th July 2002 at 4.30 pm. The works will be on display at the gallery until the 24th of August 2002.

About the Exhibition:
Wildlife artists are passionate about their subject going to great lengths to establish rapport with the spirit of the animal they portray, to gain first-hand an impression of the land they live in.
Don Heywood is founder member of The Peace Parks Foundation whose vision is to massively expand Southern Africa's game reserves by linking conservation areas across national borders. It is one of the most inspirational and far-reaching conservation initiatives in the world today and has already come to fruition in the Kalahari Desert and the Kruger National Park. He is also a patron of The Endangered Wildlife Trust whose mission is to conserve the diversity of plant and animal species in Southern Africa and sponsors Cheetah Conservation Fund. This pioneering organisation based in Namibia and South Africa is working to protect Africa's dwindling cheetah population through habitat conservation, environmental education and a cheetah-breeding programme. Eyes widen and the pulse quickens as one approaches the images this and other artists conjure up.
WWF-SA's vision is to inspire collective custodianship of our national heritage with passion and enthusiasm.
The Green Trust, jointly with The Endangered Wildlife Trust, has published ‘The Biodiversity of South Africa: Indicators, Trends and Human Impacts’. The publication includes contributions by many of the countries natural scientists. It provides a comprehensive snapshot of the current state of biodiversity conservation in each of South Africa’s ten major eco-regions.
The World Summit for Sustainable Development
The World Summit for Sustainable Development is to be held in Johannesburg from 26th of August to the 4th of September. A popular conception of the Summit, billed as the biggest ever in the world, is that it is about "green" issues - and it is. But it goes much further. It has come to be seen both as barometer of the state of earth and humanity, and as the single most important forum for negotiating corrective action.
